In the Jungle: Calleria.

>> Thursday, January 19, 2012

I was going to write about our trip up the Amazon river to Calleria....but Shaun beat me to it! So I've posted most of the pics, but you can read about our experience HERE. Enjoy!

Our little boat!

We fit about 16 people {plus 3 kids} on the boat.

Handsome hubs, just relaxing.

Sometimes we went through thick debris...a little scary!

After 4.5 hours, we finally spotted Calleria!

Setting up tents.

The kitchen we used.

Nancy and I made spaghetti the first night. It was an experience!

Yes, that is a real tarantula! It was on a beam right above our heads! Needless to say there was screaming and running on my part...and lots of laughing from everyone else. What can I say, I've never seen a wild tarantula. YUCK!

The beautiful sunrise on our first morning.

About 15 minutes up the river for a little jungle adventure.

A wild snake. Believe me, my zoom was used to it's fullest potential.

Thick, thick, THICK!

The only road was lined with about 75 houses...During the rainy season, the water rises and the "roads" become rivers and everyone uses boats to get around.

Beauty.

Adorable.

The local church.

Our team "base".

Rain clouds! I miss the rain.

Shakira :)

She smiled for the picture.

These limes were the size of oranges!

Taking parasite pills during the medical campaign.

Parasite awareness and prevention.

Leading worship. So surreal and such an experience!

On our last night, some of the women presented a song and dance for us.

Traditional Shipibo dress.

We got stuck in the debris!

It took several people about 10 minutes to rock the boat out of the debris...We could tell they had done it quite a few times!

Last team lunch when we arrived back in Pucallpa.

My amazing river fish. {I forgot the name...boo!}

Hanging out with Daniel.

My favorite relaxing spot!

Goodnight, Pucallpa!

The people you visited seems to have a simple life. Same as the people who live in our rural areas. And cooking in firewood is one of our oldest tradition.

Wow, how exciting to see your photos from a place so far away! That tarantula is a bit TOO exciting though!! Horror! I would scream and run as well.
